The present Government, as a part of its vision, is implementing a plan to create employment opportunity for all. In conformity with this vision of the Government, Ministry of  Youth and Sports has started National Service Programme under the Department of Youth  Development. During the FY 2009-10 an allocation of 20 crore taka was made by Finance Division for the programme to start with. An amount of 190 crore taka has been allocated for the financial year 2010-11. The districts of Kurigram, Barguna  and Gopalganj have been selected for piloting the programme. Around sixty thousand  young men and women who have completed their secondary education and are still unemployed have been  brought under this  programme. They are being given preliminary training for three months and being posted to various departments of the Government at upazilla and district level. They will work for those departments for two years. During the period of two years of National Service they will be able to groom themselves as skilled workforce so as to get permanent job or work in future. Their compulsory savings of taka 2000 per month will also give them an opportunity of having a capital to start small scale business after the end of National Service.
