Name of Organization : Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan - BKSP (Bangladesh Institute of Sports)

Establishment of BKSP : BKSP is a unique and only sports institute in Bangladesh. In 1974 it started its maiden journey as BIS (Bangladesh Institute of Sports). In 1976 the project of the Institute started and by 1977 BIS was declared as a Government Organization under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Later, the nomenclature of BIS was modifed in Bengali as Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP). In 1983, through an ordinance, BKSP was declared as an autonomous and statutory Organization under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The Institute was formally declared open on 14th April 1986 by the then President of the Pepole's Republic of Bangladesh. General education from class IV to degree level is imparted to the students along with sports training. At present there are 500 students studying at BKSP
Location : BKSP is located at the north of National Martyr Monument, Savar and Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) covering an area of 104 acres of lush green land, at Zirani. The distance from the capital city Dhaka to the Institute is approximately 45 km. towards north.
Aims and Objectives : With its first intake in 1986, BKSP started functioning as a residential Institute to achieve the following aims and objectives (as per the Ordinance)
 
01. To find out promising sports talents from among young boys and girls of the country and to provide adequate facilities and opportunities for their intensive training on scientific lines along with the scope of general education up to graduation level.
02. To provide training of prospective coaches, referees and umpires with a view to producing coaches, referees and umpires of higher caliber.
03. To raise the technical competence of existing coaches, referees and umpires.
04. To impart proper coaching to all national teams before their participation in international competitions.
05. To conduct certificate course for coaches, referees and umpires.
06. To serve as an information center for matter connected with sports and games.
07. To publish books, periodicals, bulletins and up-to-date information on games and sports.
08. To do such other acts and things as may be connected with or incidental to the carrying out of the functions of the institute for the purposes of this ordinance.
