Youth are the future hope of
our nation. They are the most energetic and
productive segment of the total population in
Bangladesh. Therefore, the national development
mostly depends on their working spirit and
initiatives. Keeping in this view, the
department of development under the ministry of
youth and sports has been given the
responsibility of transferring the disorganized
and unproductive youth into an organized,
disciplined and productive workforce. |
| Definition
of Youth: |
|
18-35 years old age
group are called youth. In this backdrop, the
government of the people’s Republic of
Bangladesh created the ministry of youth
development in 1978 and it was subsequently
renamed as the ministry of youth and sports. The
Department of Youth Development was created in
December 1981. |

| Vision of
the Department of Youth Development: |

To organize the
undisciplined and unproductive youth into a
organized, disciplined and productive youth
force by providing vocational /skill
development training for their gainful
employment/self-employment.

To involve the youth in
the main stream of national development
process.

| Aim & Objectives: |

To encourage the youth
for self-development and gainful employment
through motivation, training and other
necessary support including micro-credit.

To organize the youth
through voluntary youth organizations and
motivate them to take part in community
development activities.

Promoting formation of
youth organizations at the grass root levels
and ensuring their involvement in
participatory development.
-
To involve the youth in
socio-economic development activities like
literacy programme, disaster management,
environment conservation, primary health
care such as advocacy on protection of
HIV/AIDS/drug abuse etc.
-
To take necessary steps
for empowerment of youth through
mainstreaming their in national development
process.
